UWA Chapter Statement

The Morfeo UWA Chapter is devoted to the creation of open source technologies and reference implementations that enable the deployment of Web Technologies in any kind of device. Also the chapter is open to innovative applications that demonstrate the concepts around the Ubiquitous Web and the emerging concept of “Internet of Things”.

In particular the technologies and reference implementations under the scope of the UWA chapter will deal with the following topics:

  • Multi-layered approach to user interfaces that separate out the concerns of application developers from the details of how the user interface is realized on specific devices and browsers.
  • Advanced policies and formalisms (including those based on Semantics) that enable the adaptation of materials to different delivery contexts
  • Rich descriptions of devices (based on ontologies), and the means to expose this to Web applications and enable them to dynamically adapt to changes in user preferences, device capabilities and environmental conditions.
  • Enable access to device capabilities (camera, NFC, GPS, screen orientation, etc) from Web browsers
  • Remote user interfaces in which an application that is running in one device is capable of displaying a user interface in another device
  • Technologies for searching and discovery of devices / services / information in the ubiquitous web based on both users’ and device’s context features
  • Application of emerging technologies such as RFID or NFC to the Ubiquitous Web Applications space

The UWA charter will create technologies around this space and will pursue its standardization in relevant SDOs, mainly W3C. Also the UWA charter will also deal with reference implementation of emerging specifications in the UWA scope such as DCCI or Distributed DOM.
